Surface Treatment

Surface Treatment involves changing the character of a surface, or creating a functional layer, to improve its characteristics for a particular process or appearance. At its most simple it could be flame-flashing a food container prior to applying printing; at its most complex is the addition of an extremely thin but uniform hard surface to complex shapes. Most common however is the application of some form of coating such as Plasma Coating, Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD), Thermal Spraying, Plasma polymerisation of treatments to textiles and materials, painting and other processes in which surfaces are hardened, improved or embellished.
