CS Instruments VA 550 series of insertion flow meters are ideal for flammable gases such as natural gas, propane, methane, hydrogen or biogas.

Offering Atex approvals to ATEX II 2G Ex db IIC T4 Gb, ATEX II 2D Ex tb IIIC T90 °C, Db. DVGW approval is also available for natural gas applications up to 16 bar.

The insertion sensor is installed directly into into the flow path and can be done so even under pressure with the optional drilling jig.

VA 550 is mounted with a standard 1/2" ball valve allowing it to be installed or removed from the process with ease. A safety ring avoids an uncontrolled ejection of the probe which may be caused by the operating pressure.

Pipe sizes

The VA 550 is available in the following probe lengths: 160, 220, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 1000 and 1500mm making it ideal for DN20 up to DN1000 pipe sizes.

Process gases

Standard gases available on the insertion flow meter are air, Nitrogen (N2), Argon (Ar), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Oxygen (O2), Nitrous oxide (NO), Natural gas (NG), Methane (CH4), Biogas (50/50 Methane / CO2). Additional gases of Helium (He), Propane (C3H8) and Hydrogen (H2) are available with real gas adjustment option.

Typical accuracy

Stated at ± 1.5% of m.v. ± 0.3 % of f.s with optional preciosion accuracy available of ± 1% of m.v. ± 0.3 % of f.s.

Gas temperature range

From -40°c to +180°c with ambient temperatures for the housing rated to -20°c to +70°c or to +120°c for Atex versions.

Measuring ranges

Standard instruments are configured for a maximum velocity of 92.7 MPS (metres per second), low flow (50 MPS), high-flow (224 MPS) and max (185 MPS) configurations are also available.

Various outputs and digital communications are available dependant on model, these include 4 – 20 mA output, pulse output RS-485 (Modbus RTU), Ethernet (Modbus / TCP)
